About Jay

Jay was raised in Platteville, Wisconsin. He attended UW-Madison for his undergraduate degree and medical school. He completed his residency at Northwestern University and fellowships at Harvard University and the University of Chicago.

After visiting a friend in Whitefish Bay during the Sounds of Summer festival in 2015, Jay was enthralled by the closeness and family-friendliness of the Village community, and after a national job search, he moved to Whitefish Bay in 2016 with his wife and 2 daughters.

Jay currently works as a pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine specialist with Madison Medical Affiliates and Ascension Health. He serves as a board member for his group and as a chair for hospital specialty medicine at his hospital. He has been voted a Top Doctor in his fields by Milwaukee magazine.

A Leader in COVID-19 Times

Jay's leadership qualities were on display when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. He developed the national guidelines for the respiratory care of COVID-19 patients at Ascension Health. His commitment to the community led him to participate in the Whitefish Bay School District's Health Advisory Committee. He was instrumental in creating COVID-19 educational materials and in helping the school district bring kids and educators safely back into the classroom.

A Community Builder

Jay's passion for community-building and social justice were sparked by the social issues that arose in 2020 and fueled his organization of a series of backyard conversations on race and social justice. These evolved into weekly Idlewild Ave neighborhood get-togethers and based on the outpouring of positive reponses from this, Jay helped organize a Village-wide series of community conversations in the fall of 2021, all with the intent of building community and breaking down barriers to dialogue about sensitive topics.
