Whitefish Bay is a wonderful place to live, and I’m proud to be a resident. Like any community, though, there are things we could do better. As a Trustee, part of my role would be to continue the excellent stewardship of our community. But I also plan to work with our Board to continue developing an inclusive and aspirational vision for the Village and strategize how to achieve that vision.
When my wife and I hosted backyard conversations and later, neighborhood get-togethers and community conversations, we noticed that people were hungering for connection. As people got to know each other, we saw them have conversations about contentious topics that were thoughtful, authentic, and polite. These were conversations between neighbors, not labels. I'm running for Village Board in part to help restore that sense of human kindness and community.
This is the number 1 issue on residents’ minds. Silver Spring has more than a few challenges. But it has great strengths, too, and we have residents hungry to support great new businesses. We have great leadership in the business community, and we ARE on the right track, but we are not where we want to be.
For young families looking to bring their kids to our school district, housing costs can be a huge barrier to entry. Creating mixed-income housing that allows for socioeconomic diversity has many benefits to the community beyond just housing costs.
My biggest contribution as a Village Trustee in support of green initiatives would be to see if we can re-establish a process or committee for vetting environmental initiatives or at least ensuring that decisions made by our village are in alignment with our vision of the village as a champion for environmentalism.
I'm running for Village Trustee because I want my kids to be able to be seen as people, not labels. I want my kids to experience Whitefish Bay as a more inclusive and more diverse place to live.
