Bay Leaves, Silver Spring, and Housing Availability

Key Points/ TLDR:

  • As a “response” to a Village Board discussion about improving content in Bay Leaves, Best Version Media, the publisher of Bay Leaves, announced that it will no longer allocate space for Village content in its monthly publication. It will give up the name Bay Leaves, and will continue on as Whitefish Bay Living.

    • This unilateral step by Best Version Media opens the door for the Village to “take back” the Bay Leaves name and create a magazine we will want to keep on our coffee tables.

    • We have the journalistic and creative talent in Whitefish Bay to make a better Bay Leaves. I have been working on harnessing this talent and I have developed a model to make this financially feasible.

    • Look for this as an agenda topic on a Village Board agenda this summer and a hopeful relaunch of Bay Leaves as a true publication of the village, by the village, and for the village, by the end of the year or early next year.

  • The Monday Mar 6 Village Board meeting featured a fantastic panel discussion on Silver Spring development and on housing availability in the village. The recording is well worth a listen!

    • Look for the Village Board to discuss structural and legislative strategies to better support developments on Silver Spring -> we need better coordination between our government entities and businesses (and yes, the government DOES have a role to play in what businesses come to Silver Spring).

    • Look for the Village Board to discuss legislative strategies to improve housing availability. Did you know we have the second densest municipality in the state? But that we also have a declining school district enrollment? Making better use of our density to allow for young families to come to the Bay is going to be a priority.
